Winter Meetings Time

Maybe, just maybe the next few days will give Yankees' fans something to talk about. Brian Cashman has repeatedly said that he will not do something just for the sake of making a move and it is hard to argue with that stance. It is also hard to argue against him passing on "bargains" like CJ Wilson at six years/$120-million or swapping Montero and Banuelos for John Danks. If that is really what the market is, the Yankees will probably sit on the sidelines the next few days.

But, I gave Cashman the nickname, "Silent Assassin" for a reason, he usually doesn't tip his hand. Who saw the Swisher or Granderson trades coming? We kept hearing that CC would opt out in October, but that didn't happen. I have a feeling that things are happening under the surface, but we won't know until they come to fruition. It's a throwback to the days before the internet and sometimes it is frustrating as a fan in the internet age. But, we just have to trust the guy calling the shots, he has certainly earned that.

I will post as news breaks, not just on the Yankees, but all of baseball.

One of the teams (Sox or Yankees) gets Gio Gonzalez, just would like it to be the Sox. A young lefty that eats innings and has eclipsed 200 innings in his progression and gets strikeouts. Sure, whomever gets him will give up prospects but to add to the rotation it would be worth it.

He's a great pitcher, but he does walk too many batters, that could hurt him in the AL East. Still, I would love to have him. But considering that he is just starting arbitration and is under team control until 2016, he will cost a fortune in prospects.

Even a great prospect is lucky to turn out as good as Gonzalez. If you can get a guy this good this young, it's worth cleaning out some top prospects.

Probably won't happen though. My guess is that Cashman will spend some money putting together a top quality bench. Even giving Montero some ABs at DH, back up catcher, and possible OF/IF, I think we really need a:

1. Good defensive back-up catcher who can hit;

2. Fourth Outfielder;

3. Possible back up at first and third if Chavez is not an option.

Guys like Cuddyer, Kubel, Beltran come to mind. Probably all of them a little too expensive. For catcher there is Bengie Molina, Navarro, Ivan Rodriguez. No wonder nothing is happening -- the alternatives are not great.

don't take this too far the wrong way Corey but if a team had #1 he wouldn't be a back-up, right?
