Watch Out Andruw!
Andruw Jones is clearly on notice. The Yankees could have easily promoted Chris Dickerson back to the majors today after placing A-Rod on the DL, but instead they chose Greg Golson. Dickerson is a lefty bat while Golson is a righty bat, so Jones now has some competition.
It's not a bad idea. Jones certainly hasn't done much with the bat and his defense isn't what it once was. Golson has rediscovered his bat this year, hitting .295/.350/.432 this year and he plays excellent defense. If Jones doesn't turn it around soon, the Yankees can easily eat the remaining million or so left on his deal.
Big start for Bartolo tonight, it would be very reassuring to see him get off to a good start.

Looks like Andruw got the hint.

I think the beauty of them is that they gave you half a season better than you expected.
As the Yankees (and Sox) in that situation, recognize when the pumpkin starts to stink and throw it to the curb and retool.
Will be interesting how long they go with them if they indeed have hit a wall.

BL- I think Mitchell is right, the wall may be here for Bartolo. And you are right about getting a 1/2 season better than expected.
Tim- Yup, yup, yup. I would love to know what he has on Girardi and Cashman that keeps him on the roster!

Garcia is also starting to look like he's fooling no one. If I had to choose between Freddy or Bart as to which has a better shot of being effective again, I'd choose Big Bart.
This doesn't change my belief that Hughes need to get back on a winning track and either Cashman needs to make a starter appear or someone needs to get promoted from Scranton, like Nova or someone more effective than Nova.

The Yankees need to think about the immediate and the longer term future. Granderson is having a very good season, Gardiner is a keeper, but what the team has in the future might well influence how the FO sees its outfield. Andruw Jones might not be the best fit, particularly if Mark Teixeira were to get hurt again as he did in the ALCS in 2010 and Swisher were moved to 1B. I expect the Yankees to be very active at the trading deadline as both starting pitching, an outfielder and another experienced infielder are minimum necessities.
