Ortiz Back in the Fold
The Red Sox exercized their 2011 option on David Ortiz today. Ortiz was looking for a longer-term deal, but the Red Sox clearly felt this was the best way to go, even if they could have signed him to a deal worth less in 2011.
I contend they could have signed him to a 2 year, $20mm or a 3 year, $27mm, but the length obviously scared them away. His 2011 option is for $12.5mm. That's a ton of money for a DH, but it is one year and done. Might this build resentment on Ortiz's part? Maybe, but he did agree to have that option in there in the first place.

its a good move, 1 year gets you to the next phase, either someone like Prince Fielder or A.G.
Now if they could find someone to take Paps and bring in that free agent...what's his name...Rivera?

bl, next phase would be preferably the boffo young Red Sox prospect, but I fear, given the Red Sox inability to develope power, that it'll be Prince or AG or someone of that ilk.
