And So It Begins

My four biggest questions heading into the ALDS:

1- Can Andy Pettitte be "Andy Pettitte" when he gets the ball?

2- Is Mariano Rivera over his September slump?

3- Can Jorge Posada stop the Twins from running wild on the bases?

4- Will Kerry Wood throw strikes when it counts?

It is going to be a fascinating series. I think the Yankees' offense has a clear advantage over the Twins' pitching on paper, but we have seen the Yankees' offense disappear at inopportune times. If the Yankees hit, there is not stopping them, if the game becomes a battle of pitching staffs, the Yankees could be in trouble. The big guy starts it off tonight, welcome back to October!

Watching Kerry Wood is hard to do - I keep wanting him to attack the strike zone, not live just outside the corners. Maybe he knows something I don't? :-)

I feel really good about the offense picking up CC last night, and about Mo. Wood . . . not so much. If the Yankees had lost last night, I think we'd have been in deep, deep trouble. Have no clue what to expect from Andy tonight. Tomorrow's a travel day. so it's all hands in the bullpen tonight. We might have to count ourselves lucky if we get five solid innings from Andy. I still feel they should have pitched Hughes in Game 2 and Andy in Game 3. Funny thing, I thought the big, bad AL East powers were both ripe for the picking by the Twins and Rangers, because both teams had mirror-like seasons, streaky hot and cold, much stronger starting pitching in the first half than the second half, high-scoring offenses that often sputtered and weak Septembers. If anything, I was worried that the Yanks were the more vulnerable, but here we are, and the Rays are down 6-0 in the sixth and with any luck the Yanks can return to the Stadium up 2 games to none. God, I love this time of year! Am I rambling . . . ?
