That Was A Ballgame

If you didn't watch Friday night's Yankees's game, you missed a great game.  Start with the whole Torre vs. the Yankees for the first time plot.  Then add the fact that A-Rod got "revenge" against his former manager by scoring  both runs and hitting the game-winning homer.  To ramp up the tension, put Vincente Padilla, the noted Yankee headhunter, on the mound and have him hit Cano.  Then have CC administer justice back to Padilla by drilling him.  If that wasn't enough, put Mariano on the mound in the ninth with a one-run lead and watch him stirke out the the side, including Manny Ramirez.  And to cap it off, you had Don Mattingly or Joe Torre (I'm not sure which) ejected by the home plate umpire for arguing the final strike.  In short, you had a game with an October feel to it in June.

You're right, it was a great game, Peter.

I enjoyed Alex doing his victory lap around the bases after crushing that ball ... probably thinking to himself "with love, from A-Fraud". I also REALLY liked watching Posada, in full "body armor", escort Padilla (with bat still in hand) down the first base line while CC is pointing and probably thinking "you can come out here if you want to, little man, but you know why you got hit". Gotta love NL baseball sometimes when the pitcher has to stznd in the batter's box. :-)

Sorry I have to watch AJ again tonight on Fox. Ah well, it's always "interesting" watching him.

Add that to the list of reasons I like Girardi managing this team instead of Torre. Sabathia never would have drilled Padilla if Torre was manager.

You're right, Peter! Torre would have nixed that - I'd forgotten that. Had to be frustrating for his players to suck it up like that.

And AJ was "interesting" again tonight. 6 runs, 6 hits, 6 BBs over 3 innings. Starting to really get ugly for us when he's on the mound. Zero consistency, zero ability to control himself, his focus or his pitches. Ugh.
