Anyone Care To Bet?

The news today is that Nick Johnson will have a cortisone shot and then will wait 7-10 days to see how he responds.  If the isn't getting better, he will need surgery which will put him out 4-6 weeks after that. So, by that math Johnson will decide on surgery around the 25th of May and if he had surgery he would be back somewhere between June 22nd and July 6th.  Does anyone believe that in light of Johnson's injury history?  Plus, this is not the first time Johnson has hurt this wrist, the last time costing him a full season.

For now, the Yankees need to get Juan Miranda a lot of AB's against RHP to see if he can produce.  Thames is a nice player, but he really should be simply a RH bat against LHP at DH and nothing more.  There's value there, but you need other parts to make that work and the Yankees are short in that area right now.

I'm wondering if Randy Winn is simply done.  A .575 OPS following a season where he put up a .671 makes me think this is it for him.  I wouldn't expect a move right now, but unless Winn shows some life before Granderson returns, I think he gets the axe.

My guess is that Nick Johnson is basically done for at least a few months.

My moves would be to DFA Winn, bring Montero up to be second behind Cervelli - then have either Montero or Posada DH and rest Cervelli on occasion. This will *never* happen as it is too radical a set of moves for Cashman to make, but hey, that's why he's making millions and wearing WS ring bling and ... I'm not.

About the OF? Yep, Granderson needs to return. Golson looks like a more than decent glove and arm out there for now.

Mitre is throwing well so that's good news. AJ is the guy who worries me the most - he probably needs to take a lesson from the Boomer Wells School of Pitching. Pitch either drunk or hungover so that you don't think too much on the mound.

get rid of him now, lets give a young guy a chance..we know what winn is about why torture everyone until grandy gets back...do we want to get our moneys worth out of winn...first loss is your best loss...thames should be out right behind him..

Well I have the benefit of hindsight. Winn does seem to have the knack of getting big hits. Plus he's very good defensively.

Miranda seems to be a bit overmatched by major league pitching. Golson and Pena are even worse.

My DH's would be Posada, Thames, and Cervelli. I'd drop Golson because they could use Winn for everything Golson does. And I'd bring up Curtis or Weber as an extra bat & outfielder.
