Another Move

The Yankees hadn't made a move in five days, so they were certainly due.  But today's move does surprise me a bit, they have demoted Golson and promoted Melancon.

Now, don't take my surprise as dismay.  I want Melancon in the big league pen, but I wonder why they made this move at the expense of a bat with Posada's foot aching.  Furthermore, demoting Golson leaves them a bit short in the outfield, though I suppose they think Pena could play center in a pinch.

I imagine this is only a temporary move to 13 pitches because Sergio Mitre is currently unavailable after Sunday's start. But, at some point this week, Mitre will be ready to be the long guy again and that means the Yankees can demote a pitcher.

Back after the game.

Can't really blame that loss in just one thing, considering Joba's implosion and Mo's inability to find the strike zone again ... but we really need to confiscate Thames' glove. And Winn? Yep, I'd rather have seen any other player at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Not many bats to choose from with 13 pitchers.

Mike Lowell wants to go someplace where he can get more playing time. He'd make a heck of a full time DH and stand-in at 3B. Never happen, but hey, I can speculate ...

You can kiss it goodbye if the top end of the bullpen can't do better than this.

I'd feel a little better if these guys were rusty from being tired. I think Girardi underutilizes his best relievers. Get these guys in for 2 or 3 games in a row so they can work out their problems and build up some arm strength.

Girardi has no bench. How, then, can he add a 13th pitcher instead of an extra bat & fielder?

My last Girardi/Cashman rant: Why not put a guy on the DL instead of parking him on the bench? Rivera should have been DL'd April 30. He didn't for 15 days as it was. Maybe the same goes for Swisher or Posada.

Ooh boy, Girardi has Thames playing RF again tonight, batting 7th with Winn playing LF and batting 9th. Gotta hand to Girardi, he does know how to repeat a mistake.

And Swisher is still reporting porblems with his bicep so how about this? Swisher (finally) goes on the DL retroactive to some earlier date and we bring Golson back?
