Sportsman Of The Year
Congrats to Derek Jeter who was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman Of The Year today. He is the first Yankee to win that award and only the third athlete from a New York team to win. (Impossible trivia question- who were the others?)
It has been a treat to watch Jeter play for the Yankees for 14 seasons and it is nice to see him receive an award like this.

I would go with Namath and Willis Reed?

Right era for one of them, but wrong athletes. The other guy is literally impossible to guess, but I will reveal the answer tomorrow.

Johnny Podres in '55 and Tom Seaver in '69?

Koufax might be one of 'em. Such a nice boy from Brooklyn, no?
And an old school nemesis that some of my then-upperclassmen use to fear big time - might be the other. At the time, he went by the name Lew Alcindor.

BZZZZT - wrong Mitchell. The question was from a NY team, not originally from NY so Lew Alcindor can't be right.
Koufax? Eh, I suspect he didn't get the award until he was an LA Dodger, so BZZZZT again. Getting my chronolgy messed up big time here. But, another Dodger, a Brooklyn Dodger, Podres, had to be one of them.
Drawing a total brain blackout for the 2nd one though Peter.

The Cap'n is right about those two, but I have to admit I wasn't counting Podres when I did my original question. And Mitchell, Koufax did win, but he was in LA.
So, Podres in 1955
Seaver in 1969
Jeter in 2009
And one other guy who I truly think is impossible to guess so I will give a hint. He played basketball for both New York area teams in his career and he was traded out of New York, just before he won the award.
