« The Lineups Are In And I Am Out | Main | Parade Time! »

27!

It's 2:45am and I have finally made it back to my house. I am exhausted, and I don't know if I will be able to speak tomorrow because my throat is so sore, but I have never felt better.

First a note, I couldn't tweet from the park because there was some sort of bandwidth meltdown tonight. Not sure what it was, but multiple people on multiple networks kept complaining about service.  Anyway, apologies.

As for the game itself, I was struck as I walked around the park before first pitch at the lack of Phillies hats I saw.  A few weeks ago in the ALDS, there were a fair amount of Twins hats.  This time  I think we counted two total in about an hour before game time, but we were lucky enough to have a Phillies fan- sans hat- sitting right next to us.  This was a covert fan, he didn't wear any Philadelphia garb, except for the Eagles gloves on his hands.  We immediately became best buddies (sarcasm)

I don't know what it sounded like on TV, but the crowd was into it.  People were on their feet, screaming, chanting, clapping, doing everything they could to urge the Yankees on.  (And rattle Pedro)  When Matsui's homer went out I felt the place shake.

They won, we partied and then FOX took part with that tedious trophy presentation.  They didn't introduce Selig which was smart because he would have been booed.  I don't know if you saw Joba and Swisher lead the parade around the field, but that was pretty cool.  The scoreboards overdid the "This Is For You Boss" message, but I can't begrudge the Yankees saluting George at this moment.   Joe Buck was booed everytime they mentioned him and the commercial break in the middle of the presentation did not go over well.  One interesting thing was Mariano mentioning he might want to pitch five more years.

But all of that doesn't really matter. What matters is the fact that the Yankees are champs again.  Go out, celebrate and enjoy it, I think we have a parade coming on Friday.

How sweet it is!

How sweet it is!

Awesome! You totally captured how it felt. I was in Grandstand 414 and everyone was chanting and hi-fiving and it was awesome. My wife and I will never forget that night. When I heard enter sandman I knew we were going to win!!!!

Ahhhhhhhh, yes. The planets are now properly aligned in the baseball heavens. Gonna have a definite spring in my step today, oh yeah.

Very interesting that other people feel the same way I do about Joe Buck. LOL.

This one was special. For me, it was up there with 1996 and 1978 as one of the more memorable ones for me. I didn't think they had it in them at the beginning of the season, but man they turned it around, picked up a head of steam and never stopped.

Mitchell -- You nailed it! All is well with the universe again. The Yankees are champions once more! They were tough, resilient -- they were the best!!!

Curious: Why does everybody hate Joe Buck so much?

I only know why Buck annoys me: he likes to stir the pot of controversy and he likes to hear himself talk. Seemingly nothing a Yankee accomplishes can ever be mentioned without bringing up their salary. Note to Fox: the best players typically make the best dollars - just like it happens in "real life" sometimes.

Nothing the Yankees do is ever about their tenacity, drive, efforts, talent, etc. - it's about dollars or steroids - or about losing to the Sox in 2004 or Mo blowing the save way back when.

And the guy thinks vocalizing his thoughts are more important than just calling the game well.

MATSUI!!!!

This was a great team, with Rivera being the essential advantage over any other team. Jeter also is a truly great and irreplaceable player. Everyone else on the team is either a great player or a true professional.

The biggest difference was pitching. It's amazing that the other Yankee teams since 2002 got as far as they did. They really lost the edge in pitching that they had in the late 1990s. But this year's edition had three terrific starters. I imagine they'll add a fourth in the postseason.
