Why Joe?

For those of you who follow us on Twitter, you saw my first-guesses tonight, for those of you who don't here they are:

Why do you bring Gardner in to pinch run for Matsui when it costs you your best defensive outfielder?  You could have used Gonzalez here.(And this move would ultimately cost the Yankees their DH)

Why do bring in Coke to start the 8th when Marte (also a lefty) got you out of the 7th?

Why do you put Hairston in for Gardner against Fuentes when Gardner has a better OPS against LHP? (.781 vs. .741)

Why do you use Cervelli to pinch hit for Rivera when Rivera probably has about the same chance to get on base and he could start the 11th?

And finally, why do you pull Robertson in the 11th after only two batters when he is pitching well to bring in Aceves?  This move also leaves you with only Gaudin in the pen.

It's 2-1 and I put the blame for that on Girardi.

Yep, yep and yep. This one is on Girardi.

Great pitching is a beautiful thing to watch; having said that, I'm thinking that one of these games the Yankees (the guys who scored the most runs of any team in the majors) are going to start relaxing at the plate and start putting up some big numbers. Hitting dingers is nice, but hitting them with runners on is nicer. Yankee bats need to get past this current bout of RISP-itis and explode in the next two games.

Peter, I can't agree more on all those points. You can say he got away with the other moves but the Robertson to Aceves move blew up. I was screaming at the TV when they took him out and furious when it cost them the game.
