This Would Be Nice
Hey, did you hear about this QB they got in Minnesota? Brett someone or something and apparently he has a big game Monday.
What does this have to do with baseball? Well, if the Twins and Tigers need to have a playoff game (Minnesota won already today keeping the pressure on Detroit) it will have to be Tuesday because of the football game.
At the very least, the AL Central will not be decided tonight and since the Twins, Tigers and Yankees are all playing at nearly the same time tomorrow, the Yankees should have their regular season completed before having to pick which ALDS series they want. It also means Verlander will probably have to take the ball for the Tigers tomorrow, knocking him out of a potential Game 1 in the ALDS.
I have thought about this a couple of different ways and I think the best result for the Yankees would be for the Twins to force the playoff, but lose it to the Tigers. Either way, both teams having to play on Tuesday would be a big advantage for New York.

I'm fully expecting Bud to change the playoff format with this latest news, perhaps we skip the game between the Tigers and the Twins altogether and do a coin flip. Maybe have the World Series home team figured out as a result of the Vikings/Packers game (vikings are minnesota, hence AL and the Packers are close to Milwaukee hence NL).
