Five Years
October 9, 2004, the 100+ win Yankees eliminated the Twins in four games to head to the ALCS. It took just over five years for the Yankees to match that feat and advance to another ALCS.
For Yankees fans like me who truly came of age in the 80's, five years without a playoff series win is a walk in the park. For fans who came later, this has been a tougher stretch.
It doesn't really matter now. The Yankees are headed to the ALCS and they are going to be able to pitch Sabathia in Game 1. We will have much to discuss tomorrow, but for now just enjoy this. After all, it's been five years.
Comments
Several things to discuss:
Do you want Andy or AJ pitching second? My vote is Andy.
Joba stays in the bullpen and Gaudin is number 4. That has to remain that way.
Do you bring Bruney or Marte. This is a tough one but Marte hasn't impressed me much for a long time. He can't seem to buy an out. So, Bruney or Marte?
We never see Hinske, so do we revert to some speed with Pena or Guzman? This is the LAAoA we're facing next.
Damon seems to be lost right now at the plate. Gardy in CF with Melky in LF to start the games? Does Girardi have the guts to do that?
Was your favorite Schadenfreud moment seeing the melodramatic look on Papelbum's face or the "this is the end of my road" look on Varitek's? Mine was Papelbum's visage after his implosion. Hey, if Mo can lose a few big games in his HOF career, so can Mr. Papelbum.
