Just What This Country Needs...
Ah yes, shameless self-promotion is alive and well. Citizens of Massachusetts, I implore you, do not inflict this on the rest of the country. I know he pitched for your beloved Sox, but this is a serious time and we need serious people in Washington D.C.. Not this clown.

I agree, BUT, would he be worse for the country than Senators that are old enough to worry if they are gonna wake up every day (24 current Senators are 70+ in age, 4 are 84+).
or
Senators that like a good game of footsie now and again in airport restrooms.
There also is precedent of athletes moving on to political office, Jim Bunning is one and Bill Bradley is another.
If Schill makes the run, how about this question, name one player (current or past) from each of the 3.5 major sports that you would/could see serving the public.
I'll let Schilling in as my baseball rep.
Barkley as a Gov of Alabama seems appropriate.
Favre as a Senator from Wisconsin/Minnesota/Louisiana ?
Ovechkin follows in footsteps of fellow red-blooded American-born Arnold Schwarzenegger as Gov of Cali.
Anybody else?

I wouldn't worry about it too much Peter. He's a righty - the citizens of the Commonwealth prefer lefties.

Mitchell-
Great line!
BL-
You picked some pretty likely ones. I think Schilling probably is the most likely MLBer and Barkley the NBAer.
But, for NFL, how about Peyton Manning? He might like attention more than Favre (and no way Brett gets elected in Wisconsin now!)
And for the NHL I think Messier is the guy. He could run in New York, but I could see him as a MP for Alberta in the GWN.
