Who Do You Root For?
A lot of talk in New York today about which team to root for in the upcoming Rays-Red Sox series. Some people feel that you root for the Rays to win so the Yankees can stay in first. Others counter that by saying you root for the Red Sox because you want them to come into New York on a big winning streak (more likely to lose in NYC) and it would bury the Rays.
I am of the opinion that you root for a split. One game each, but they need to be "special" games. By special, I mean long, think record-setting games, 30+ innings each. I want to look in the box scores and see that the winning pitcher one night was Pedroia after going six innings and Longoria got the win the second night after replicating the feat. That's what I want.
On a more serious note, the Yankees have a tough little series coming up. You have that pitcher who wasn't traded and is still in Toronto to beat Tuesday and then Sergio Mitre on the mound in a game where it might be easy to look ahead to Thursday on Wednesday. This is one of those series where I could see the Yankees losing both if they aren't careful.

Tampa Bay? why worry about them? Several reasons ,One is we MUST win the east, first round is Angles if we are the wild card, does anyone fantasize that we will ever win a series VS THEM? I am a realist..two the rangers.. they have 45 losses, tampa has 48, we have 42.. with only 57 games to play if they can over come the rangers and us, that would be a major collapase by us. best case scenario . yanks win east with best record, sox wild card, we play tigers or winner central, sox fight it out with angles , sox win, we live up to our end , beat sox in seven...go play the phillies. root hard for tampa i think they have nine or ten games left with sox.. just a guess. if we both split our series, Toronto, Sox, whats more important, a six game lead over a team thats third in the WC at six loses, or a game over the sox going into play a four game set?? if we split we are in first ? GO TAMPA BAY

This is an easy one for me - the Rays sweep the Sox.

Hey Mitchell, I think we agree, do you agree that we agree?? It is just math..

BWP, on this one, we DO agree. ;-)
I absolutely, positively, categorically, emphatically, undeniably canNOT root for the Red Sox. Nope, no way, no how, not in a billion years. Yeah I can be (and have been) friends with some ex-players but not until they take off the red uniform for good.
Go Rays !

Mitchell, as a Red Sox fan, I appreciate your wanting the Rays to win both. In fact, Peter and I briefly discussed this offline and I said any good Red Sox or Yankees fan would want the other team to lose...all the time.
As an aside, the only time it is ok for the other team to win is if we are in mid-late September and your team's post season depends on it. But in early August? No way.

Peter that was great rooting ,they emptied the pen just as you dreamed it. how about a slugfest to empty the pen again? lester looked great..we get him sunday.. maddon made a few mistakes last night, but how do you pitch to longoria???? he should have walked the bases loaded.

Totally agree BWP. Two outs and first base open, no way I let Longoria beat me.
