How About Pedro?
There are few guys who Yankees' fans have hated more over the past 15 years than Pedro Martinez. The guy was an amazing pitcher with an enormous ego, two things that didn't endear him to New York crowds. And there was the infamous brawl at Fenway where Pedro and Don Zimmer mixed it up.
But, Johnny Damon wasn't exactly a fan favorite pre-2006 and Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs were welcomed in the Bronx, so why not Pedro? At this point he is asking for a pro-rated deal of $5 million, or about $2.5 million to pitch the remainder of the season. Now, I don't know what the scouts are saying, but if he has shown that he can throw, why not take a chance on him?
At this point the Yankees are going to pick a fifth starter out of a hat and since that is where we are, why not try Pedro? Yeah he costs some money, but that isn't a problem for the Yankees. Plus, if he pitches well and Wang returns, can you imagine having Pedro in the bullpen? It's all probably way too far-fetched for Brian Cashman, but it would be pretty wild to see.

So, it's "sell your soul" Peter?
Come on. You weren't happy at first glance at the Damon deal, were you? Clemens, Boggs?
Is it that you've just been beaten down by so many cross-rivarly acquisitions that you are ok with a Pedro deal?
Look, it's one thing to grudgingly "ok" a deal after the fact, but to outright appeal to the Yankees to grab a former opponent, that's another thing.
Yes, that's a needle in your side you are feeling. But, come on man.

Andy- Using your logic, had I been alive in 1920, I should have rejected Babe Ruth joining the Yankees.
I don't like it, but the Red Sox seem to have some good players from time to time. If those players make the sensible decision to migrate to New York, I am going to root for them. I imagine you didn't stop rooting for the Celtics this season after Stephon Marbury showed up.

I'd welcome Pedro going to the Yanks, if that is what you put out there every 5th so be it. Hopefully he would get his turn against the Sox next time they play.
Loved watching him in his prime, not much to watch now

I think you missed my point. I'm not faulting you for rooting for a guy once he arrives, but you shouldn't openly say "hey, let's grab, so and so."
That's all.
Blmeanie, It would be great to see him in a Yankees uni, though purely from a baseball standpoint. That would be an interesting match-up if he did face the Red Sox.

To my knowledge Pedro's only "crime" has been playing for the Red Sox. He never used any PED's and he never committed any real crimes. Based on that, I have no problem with him joining the Yankees.
Now you will never hear me say the Giants should sign Michael Vick or I would really like the Yankees to sign Brett Myers.

Pedro would plunk Youk in the first inning, both benches would clear and it would be great (assuming Youk doesn't get hurt)

Peter, you are spot on about Myers. I think he is the lowest, worst form of man. I think he should have to pay for what he did for such a long time I can't even express it.
And then to try and act like nothing is wrong and to have MLB TV interview him, etc. is just a joke.
The Red Sox had a player around here named Wil Cordero who hit his wife while she was prego. He was basically booed out of Fenway. I think Philly fans ought to be ashamed of themselves for not doing the same to Myers.

Ah, Philly fans, my favorite fans in all the world.
But, in their defense, they aren't the only ones. Didn't Boston cheer Carl Everett at one point? New York certainly cheered Dwight Gooden. Dave Meggett was popular in both places....This is a very slippery slope.

If guys like Pedro, Pettite, Glavine, Mussina were willing to take a big pay cut and pitch in relief, all 30 teams would want them, and they could stay in the league until they were 45.
But that does not appear to be their motivation. They want to start and they want to make the big money.
