Posada To The DL

WFAN is reporting that Posada is headed to the DL with a hamstring strain.

This is the worst possible news for the Yankees and now they have to, have to make a trade for a new catcher.  Posada is 37, he is not going to catch 120 games a year anymore and Austin Romine and Jesus Montero are in A ball.  The Yankees never should have let it come to this, but they have and now Cashman has to figure it out.

It would be great if they could finally do something, but my guess is that Cashman simply offers Kevin Cash to Girardi. I can't see Cervelli coming up. At least A-Rod is reportedly returning later this week. His bat will help replace Jorge's.

The 40 man roster moves will be interesting, as always.

Peter,

That comment I made the other day about the Yankees not having much in the bullpen (other than Mo) all these years? Ditto for the bench. It has been inexcusably weak for years. I mean, Molina is a nice defensive catcher, but his "hitting" is atrocious. And it's not like the Yanks couldn't have known that maybe -- just maybe, mind you, -- it might be prudent to consider having a serviceable backup for a catcher on the wrong side of 35 years of age. They spend millions on high-profile free agents and then neglect the bench.

Greg- It's a great point and I can't figure out why. Why spend all that money on position players and then nothing on reserves? Now, I will say they went into the season with Nady and Swisher both on the roster (thankfully) but the infield and catcher backup situations were not handled correctly.
