Oliver And Weathers
Of all the players offered arbitration, only David Weathers and Darren Oliver accepted. That fact just reinforces my belief that the Yankees made a huge mistake when they didn't offer arbitration to Bobby Abreu. Draft picks are an important thing to keep and after a disasterous 2008 draft, New York needed a strong 2009 draft.
Well, water under the bridge, but Brian Cashman needs to have a good week in Vegas. (And not at the tables)

i had a vision after reading your post of Cash at the craps table getting ready to roll and yelling, "Hankie needs a new outfield and some rotation help!"

Peter,
Have to disagree with you on this one. Declining to offer arbitration was a smart move. Five million here, five million there and pretty soon you're talking real money. :-)
In the Vegas spirit? Draft picks are a crap shoot, long way to go for them to reach the bigs.

And now for something completely different.
Am starting to think that going after Tex instead of CC makes some sense. I think CC is West Coast bound and the Yankees still have two kids who look like they might be ready: Ike the Attitude and Four Eyes Phil. And Andy will come back for less money as he knows he's worth less now. Tex can be a long term answer, a good hitting and fielding one, at the 1B position. Yep, the mantra has been pitching - but even if Ike, Phil and Andy are deemed insufficient when added to Joba and Wang, then there are a few guys out there still who can throw the ball (Sheets etc.) and who would accept less money and shorter contracts.
