Cashman Strikes Again
Someone has to explain to me how Cashman pulled this one off. I mean seriously, getting anything for Hawkins is amazing and I feel sorry for the Astros' fans out there because I have no idea what your GM is doing.
The prospect isn't a great prospect, he ranked 29th in the Houston system (which was rated the worst in baseball) but there are doubts that he can do anything more than hit. Hey, it doesn't matter, this was truly something for nothing.
I would like to point out one last thing about Cashman and the Yankees. They seem to have a fairly unique ability to make trades without anyone knowing about them ahead of time. Think of the countless rumors you have read the past week or so and did you see any about Nady, Marte or Pudge before the trades happened? I don't know how they do it, but it is worth remembering. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.

Peter, good for Cashman, but when a player is designated, in order for a team team to get him, he has to offer something.
Nothing against the prospect, but he is highly unlikely to make it to the big leagues.
This seems to have been a case of a team saying "yes, we'd like Hawkins and could probably wait to bid for him when he clears, but why not just throw something to get him now?"
I guess my point is that titling your post "Cashman Strikes Again" makes it sound like this was a coup. It wasn't.

Andy- Which part of "something for nothing" don't you get? Maybe it wasn't a coup, but it was a positive and Cashman has had a pretty good week.

Agreed, Cashman has had a good week. But saying it was "amazing" is overdoing it in this case.

Right now, Cash is killing Theo in the "let's make an upgrade" competition.
Next? If we can get someone to replace Sidney - THAT would be, unquestionably, amazing. Hello Scranton? Is Ian there? Good, have him pack up - and tell him to bring Bruney with him.

Opinions on Cusick vary, but some think he has the tools to be a major league regular.
