Who Is Chris Stewart?

Connect the dots back to Scranton with the Posada injury and you would guess that Chris Stewart will soon be on his way to the Yankees.  Who is the guy and what do we know about him?

Stewart was originally a 12th-round draft choice of the White Sox and he just turned 26.  He bats and throws righty and was once considered the top defensive catcher in the White Sox organization.  Baseball America liked his "quick release".  Stewart had cups of coffee the past two seasons with Chicago and Texas, hitting .200 in 45 plate appearances.

Baseball Prospectus has Stewart projected to actually out-hit Molina by a bit (.237/.287/.370), with both providing above-average defense.  But here's the interesting thing, because he is only 26, Stewart has a much higher upside and if he hits at the top of their projections, they have him at .277/.332/.463.  For the Yankees, anything approaching the league average at catcher .274/.332/.408 from Molina and Stewart will be a bonus.  For now they will have to hope that both continue to play stellar defense and the other eight guys in the lineup get the offense going.

And what I'm reading now is that there might not be a tear, just a strain. Either way, he complains of pain in throwing and a dead arm - so off to the DL with him.

Players don't visit Dr. Andrew's for "nothing major".

Dr. Andrews is basically the grim reaper to athletes. They go to him on their deathbeds to plead for a little more time.

Under the heading of Details.

Assuming Moeller clears waivers - if they want to bring him back, do we then have to DFA Stewart and hope that HE clears waivers or is it simple send down?

Jim- good point

Mitchell- Stewart must have options left (not sure on that, but I think he must) so you could send him down. But, the Yankees would need to make room on the 40-man to add Moeller. They could 60-day DL Cervelli to open a spot.

Line up 2 years from now:

C- ???
1B -- Posada
2B -- Cano
SS -- Gonzalez
3B -- A Rod
LF -- Jeter
CF -- Cabrera
RF -- Tabata
DH -- Matsui

If they opt for a good- field-no-hit catcher, as is likely given the market, the above demonstrates that they will need to add at least one more, much bigger bat at DH or OF.

Good exercise Corey.

I see Jeter at 1B as he would still have faster feet and hands than Jorge in 2010. Yep I know that teams like booming bats at 1B, but that's what I see.

I also see Matsui out of here playing on the left coast someplace.
