I Still Have A Chance!
Ok, so my childhood dream of playing for the Yankees didn't work out, but this news from Peter Abraham makes me think I still have a shot. For instance, when I compare myself to Billy Crystal I find that:
We are both too old for rookie ball.
We were both born in New York.
We both love the Yankees.
We are off to a good start here, right?
But then again, Billy Crystal is a movie star and I am not (yet).
Ok, points to Billy, but I still have an ace up my sleeve....
I have never appeared in a movie wearing a Mets hat.
So, I think this should be a done deal. Billy and I are practically the same and while he has the fame, I have the non-Mets hat thing on my side. Makes sense, doesn't it? (a guy can dream, right?)
Comments
while it might be fun, it is stupid and insulting to baseball and to professional atheletes.
Let him or any other public figure go to the fantasy camps and get their thrills.

I agree with BL. This strikes me as a tacky, cheap stunt. He doesn't belong on the field with major leaguers. It seems somehow demeaning to me.

This Yankees fan thinks it's great that Billy is getting a chance to put on the hat for a ST game. Guy deserves it and the team showed quite a bit of class and loyalty to one of its biggest, most talendted fans by letting him "play for a day".

then let him train for weeks on end, running, hitting, throwing (I know he was DH) and overall have to be in shape.
btw - almost worked a walk where we likely would have seen a pinch runner, nice K Billy, got some material for the next stand up you have to do I presume

Bl- Why do you hate Billy Crystal so much? Was it "Mr. Saturday Night?" I agree awful movie, but "Forget Paris" sort of made up for it, didn't it?

actually I don't hate him, just egging you on a bit but you didn't really bite
I do think it is stupid though to do. Glad he struck out.

Gotcha, to be honest after seeing Garth Brooks do this I am surprised more teams haven't done it.
Next year it will be Paul Simon!
