"He feels great. The ball came out of his hand well."

Those are the words of Dave Eiland about none other than Carl Pavano who showed up in Tampa yesterday. Let's be fair, Eliand hasn't been around the big-league Yankees for very long, but someone needs to tell him how ridiculous he sounds when he says something like that. Pavano will be sent to the 60-day DL as soon as the season starts and that will hopefully be the last we hear of him with the Yankees.

He held his hand at his side and dropped the ball to the ground. Let's offer this guy a contract extension quickly to keep his talents with the Yankees.

Pavano? Whos that. I would not let him any where near the camp. He didnt earn the right to be next to Mariano, Jeter or for that matter the fellow who washes thier jocks. I would pay him in full for the whole year now, so we dont even have his name on the same payroll with the rest of the players. Are you sure he is Italian? No heart , Disgrace, EXPUNGE his name from all Yankee Records..Lets talk about Hughes, Joba, Kennedy and Giradi. P.S. Lets find some nice weather for Mussina and send him off to some place comfy for him..TO hot , to cold the wind was in my eyes and its going to be a full moon.. Sorry Mike you became too sensitive .Hey.. San Diego or Torre ville.Nice and comfy. Lets see who could have a more depressing look on thier face. Torre is still the favorite three to one . I cant wait for the parade in NY this fall.

Mussina has shown the Yankees a lot of heart over the past several years and was a pretty good free agent signing. He earned his stripes in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS -- and in all those great starts against Pedro where he kept the Yanks in the game.

But he is vulnerable this year given the availability of lots of younger pitchers. I'd like to see Mussina throw a lot more junk, maybe even a pure knuckleball. Barring some human growth hormone, that might be the only thing that could extend his career.

As for Pavano, this is why the Yanks didn't spend $150 million + on Santana. Pavano was a workhorse before the came to the Yankees and seemed like a pretty good bet. Santana is even more of a workhorse, with better stuff physically and upstairs in the noggin. BUT, he's just as vulnerable as Pavano to injury. And no amount of heart or mental strength is going to pull you out of the kind of arm trouble that plagued Pavano
