It's Finally Over

Fantastic news fans, the Mets have completed a trade for Johan Santana. The Mets will send Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey.

It's weird, but this is one of the few times both fans of the Yankees and Red Sox can be happy. Neither fan base (or the authors of this blog) wanted to part with the players and cash it would take to attain Santana and seeing him go to the National League is great news.

Of course the Mets have to sign him and that may cost big, big bucks, but they have the $$ and the need, so I don't expect a problem.

If you are a Twins fan, my condolences. It looks to me like your club really blew it big time with this deal and you have every right to blast ownership.

I don't think you can say all yankee fans are happy. we still need an ace, and the f'n mets got him. i hate them. damn them and there nearly all latino team. screw minaya and screw cashman for being so damn cheap. we needed him and had a much better offer. the twins are the true losers right now though. they could have had better packages from weither the yankees or the red sox. dammit.

as a Sox fan, I kinda agree with PIssed off Yankee Fan's post.

I would have allowed a deal to be lopsided as long as Ellsbury wasn't part of it.

But, I don't hate the Mets the way Yankee Fan does so that doesn't bother me as much. Tough for the Braves, yes but oh well, another year without Sox/Braves world series...

Oh man, this could not have worked out more perfectly for us.

We don't have to part with our young high-ceiling prospects.

We don't have to make a ridiculous salary committment that will feel like a boat anchor in 3 years.

We don't have have to face him 4-6 times a year on our closest rival.

We'll never have to face him in a 5-game playoff series.

The Mets are the big winners for netting an ace pitcher without giving up their #1 prospect and the Twins are the losers for overplaying their hand and losing out big. The the Yanks and Sox aren't far behind the Mets in terms of being winners in this deal.

Like I said... this was as good a result as we could have possibly hoped for. Awesome!

Count this Yankee fan as very happy to think Johan is going to the Mutts.

Now we don't have to part with young talent; part with gobs of cash; don't have to face him until either IL play or the WS.

Lord, I do hope this trade goes through.

The Twins offered Santanta 4 years @ $20 million per year and have spent money to lock up their talented young players (Morneau, Cuddyer, Mauer). They showed good faith, and Santana should have taken the deal with, perhaps, some sweetners.

But I think when he saw how much money a dog like Silva got, he got mad and decided to cash out.

Too bad for the Twins and for the best interests of baseball.

As for the Yankees, I'm glad we'll get to see if their good young players pan out. That's what makes baseball interesting.

p.s.: The Twins have not locked up their closer Nathan yet, and if they are out of race midseason, some big market team is going to give up a lot for the chance to get a guy that good.

Jimmy, Mitchell, Corey, I totally agree with all you said.

BL- this Yankees' fan doesn't hate the Mets (he might even have tickets to them to see National League baseball from time to time) but I know a lot who do.
