"The Twins Are Laughing"

That's what Jon Heyman said about the deadline that Hank the Tank set yesterday. I don't think they are right, because unless they head down to Tampa and apologize to Hank for not trading Santana sooner, I think the Yankees will get out of this tonight. With Pettitte back in the fold, the Yankees don't have the same hole in their starting rotation they did yesterday. Would they still love Santana, of course, but they also might be willing to see if Bedard or Haren are available. Stay tuned, it should be an interesting night.

Hank the Tank. I love it.

If the Twins are laughing, it's a nervous laugh. The have an ace with a no trade clause - a guy they have no hopes of retaining past 2008. The same guy who said "trade me NOW" or I'll ride out the season and become a FA. The Twins are the team that's got a deadline and a tight budget. The Yanks just got a year's reprieve on their pitching crisis - not a good thing for the Twins, maybe a good thing for the Sox in their drive to land Johan.

Ah, I just love to watch the machinations of high profile trades.

Private memo to Hankenstein" "Yo Dude! Shut up for a bit and play the media instaed of letting the media play you."

Were I a betting man, I'd bet that Johan becomes a Yankee either in 2K8 or 2K9. Hankenstein wants him. We'll see.

Mitchell, I agree to a point. They have to take Hughes off the table if this thing isn't done by midnight. All this talk about tampering is making me think the Twins have decided to nix the deals and keep him.

Tim - I would love to be able to put a bid in on Johan that didn't involve one of the young arms. Can't see the Twinkies doing that though - they need to get value for Johan rather than ride him to the end of 2K8.
