before seeing it, reading the script of it on espn.com I came away with an impression he is clean.

After watching it just now, that feeling is reinforced.

Call me naive or whatever, I am convinced.

I always heard that if a person is blinking a bunch during this kind of thing, they are lying...or have something in their eye.

That being said, I always fall back to what George Costanza said to Jerry right before Jerry was supposed to take a lie-detector test: "Jerry, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it."

I assume from your two remarks Andy that you believe he is lying.

Fair enough, enough reason to think so.

I don't think he is good enough or smart enough to pull off a convincing lie, sounding sincere.

It's one thing to be sincere; it's quite another to be truthful. The two aren't the same given the malleability of the truth and the human capacity for self-deception.

Here we have the testimony of a guy who was granted immunity and therefore only has exposure to the extent he lies. And his story about Pettite was admitted by Pettite. That certainly bolsters his credibility Do you really believe he's just making that stuff up about Clemens? And what about the spike in Clemens performance after a couple of down-years, his manic workout program, his physical changes, and his 'roid-like rages?

Vecsey had a great article in the New York Times about this. He argues that there is no reason to be outraged by players cheating. It's what many ordinary people do under stress and especially when there is great motive and little chance of being caught.

Under the same circumstances, who's to say what we would have done? So I don't condemn Clemens. I just don't believe him.
