A Big Trade

The Marlins are sending Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera to Detroit for six players. The Tigers just got a lot better.

This trade may also put the Angels into the Santana sweepstakes because they were considered the favorites to land Cabrera before this trade and they have a ton of prospects they could deal.

Well, if Santana goes to the Angels, I am not sure that is better, consdiering how the Angels have owned the Yanks, but at least he wouldn't be in our division.

Keep dreaming Yanks fans. Johan's new house is in Boston baby! He's gotta be worth all those players/prospects and that mountain of cash.....right? Damn I hope so.

I have some time to kill this morning, so...

Call me negative if you want, but Im not sold on the Tigers being a whole lot better than they were and am glad it was the Tigers that made this trade and not the Yankees.

Dontrelle is now 2 years removed from his 22 win season, and who knows whats up with him. His 2006 wasnt great, his 2007 was awful and now he is going to the superior league to boot. He really got smacked around quite a bit last season (241 hits in 205 innings). To put it lightly, Detroit did not just land Bedard/Haren/Satana.

Cabreras a great hitter, but offense certainly was not the Tigers issue last season. This trade might also mean that Brandon Inge may be bumped out, which is a shame as he is a better hitter/player than he showed last season and much superior fielder.

Since Cabrera very well may be the worst defensive 3rd basemen in the game, they may have to shift him to 1st/DH.

So, I guess I'm saying that while this trade landed two big names, I'll be surprised if the Tigers actually improve on the field a great deal.

At least they only gave up Maybin and Miller...yikes.

Jack: At this point, take him.

I totally agree on Willis, he doesn't worry me at all. But, Cabrera in that lineup makes it very good and very deep. He probably won't stay on third for long, but if he really has lost that 15 pounds, he can hang there for the immediate future.

This was a great trade for the Tigers. Cabrera is a terrific player and Willis may still have something left. And the Tigers don't have to pay A-Rod money or Santana money. Not a bad deal.
