Even More Lowell

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles have NOT offered Mike Lowell a deal. So if you believe reports, he has offers not from Atlanta, St. Louis, or Philly, but instead New York (Yankees) and Boston. The Angels are after Miguel Cabrera. If they fail to get Cabrera, perhaps they will turn their attention to Lowell. But just how long will the Marlins negotiate before they pull the trigger on a deal for Cabrera?

When matched up against all the reports in the last 24 hours, Lowell has 2 offers, from the Yankees and Red Sox. In the words of Fletch: "Irwin M. Fletcher you choose..."

Most underrated movie ever (also my favorite) and a memorable baseball scene to boot. Well done, Andrew!

"Hey look you and Tommy Lasorda!"

"I hate Tommy Lasorda!" (smashes picture of Chief Karlin with Lasorda)

The Yanks have no offer to Lowell. Lowell's agents are just feeding that to TV stations in Boston.

Why don't the Yankees move Arod to first and keep lowell at third. Lowell has all of the Gold gloves.

We also get to see what kind of person Lowell is. He's always been considered and upstanding guy and role model. Does he stay with the Red Sox for less money and years or does greed take him over and he goes for his "fair share" with the Yankees.

Phil, is that your opinion or do you have a source?

Even if the Yankees don't have interest, it does make sense for them to talk like they do to drive up the price. Just good baseball business.

Tripp, good question and good point. Wouldn't it make sense to move ARod to 1b? Then again, wouldn't it have made sense to move Jeter and let ARod play SS? That was the smart move (statistically anyway).

As for Lowell, you are right, this will say a bunch about him. Of course in life, taking the money isn't necessarily a knock, but it does say something. I really think it could be a happiness and great wealth vs. not as happy and fantastic wealth. The good thing for Lowell is that either contract will just make him richer than he already is, but only one will make him really happy.

I said this to Mitchell, Lowell is a pull hitter and as a righty, that doesn't usually play out well at Yankee Stadium. .887 OPS at Fenway and .786 at Yankee Stadium. From a satisfaction of baseball performance, I think he'd want to stay with Boston, but that's just me.

Yeah Lowell is much better suited for Fenway park. I can't believe the Yankees and Cashman would offer that contract. On so many levels it just doesn't make sense, except to drive up the price for the Sox.

I saw a similar thing to what Phil said today scroll to the bottom of this story http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spyside165463287nov16,0,870516.story

Andy, Totally in agreement with easily met criteria for a vesting 4th year for Mike Lowell. His swing was made for Fenway and there is nobody there to play 3B or 1B who won't cost an arm and a leg. We need Lowell in Boston even if it goes against what has been very wise decisions for resigning vets in the past. Plus he needs to be kept away from NY who (if the interest is real) is doing this to make themselves better and hurt the Sox at the same time. They got A-Rod back and are now all happy about it despite all the "happy to see him go" talk after his announcement and as a super strong offensive club, I'm sure they will now investigate Johan even more fully. We need Lowell in the fold to move forward with getting the rest of the team together. I really think we need get this signing done and if a 4th vesting year can do it, I say do it.
