Enough Already!

Does this sound familiar?

“The Yankees have completed their discussions today. No decisions have been made concerning Joe Torre. The discussions will continue.”

It's hard to understand what the delay is, but about the only thing we can definitively draw from this is that George is no longer fully in charge.  He made a threat on October 6th.  The Yankees didn't respond to that threat on October 8th.  It is now October 17th and the threat hasn't been carried out.  A new era has been born in the Bronx these past nine days, now we have to wait and see what that means for the future.

Would love to be able to hear the conversations in Tampa this week. Dad, his two sons, the GM and the Tampa Bunch trying to reach some sort of consensus.

Cash must not know what to expect either from The Sons. Ah, the joys of family owned baseball ownership.

Peter are you saying that b/c the reaction from George wasn't immediate, he isn't in charge anymore? Perhaps George is trying to make his manage suffer a bit (he isn't too good a person to do that is he?). Making Joe wait might be his way of getting back at recent events.

If his kids are really in charge then they A.) Are just as mean as George or B.) Don't know how to manage a business.

Andy, yes that's exactly what I am saying. George is many things, but he would never have let this go so long if he were in charge.

And, how about an option "C"? Maybe they have gone to Joe Torre and offered him a deal to manage, but at a big paycut and therefore he needs to think about it? Not sying that's what happened, but at this point who knows?

Peter, option C is certainly a possibility and I never meant to discount that possibility or any other possibility.

As for Torre and Steinbrenner and the time involved, just how long did it take GS last year? If I recall, it wasn't a quick fix either. Perhaps you can put your posts up from that time to prove me wrong.

As a preemptive comment, just what is your definition of a long time? I think it should have been fairly easy on the Yankees side to figure out whether to keep Torre. It should have been decided in 1 day, maybe spilling over into 2. Did that happen after the 2006 season?

Your right, I should get my posts up, but for the record, The Yankees lost in 2006 on October 7th and Torre was retained as manager officially on October 10th, so three days elapsed.

As to what is a long time in my mind, this is. I figured they would have settled this by the end of last week. Now that we are almost at the end of this week, I am shocked. I tend to think my Option C might be a possibility because like you said this should have been a fairly easy decision. I really can't figure out what else could be holding up an announcement one way or the other.
