Gagne is Officially a Disaster

Eric Gagne can't become a free agent fast enough for me.  He, for whatever reason, has been terrible and I think tonight was the final blow.  The Red Sox were in need of a win and had one in their grasp, but Eric Gagne self-destructed and lost the game for Boston.

This is very frustrating.  What is worse is if Gagne has a soft free agent market and accepts arbitration from Boston.  That would be bad.

What was equally frustrating was Francona letting Gagne get himself into trouble and then allowing him to walk the plank.  Come on Terry, you've seen it before with this guy.  Kyle Snyder would have been a better option.  Anyway, I have to assume this was the icing on the cake and Gagne will NOT be on the Red Sox playoff roster (Jerry Remy said on the broadcast that this appeared to be an audition for Gagne).

It's now 2 1/2 games.  I am getting the feeling Terry Francona and Boston management are (or is it "is") just fine with winning the wildcard and not the AL East.  Way to stagger into the playoffs guys.

At this point Andy, it's just for bragging rights in the AL East. Tito may be resting everyone up for October.

Torre doesn't really have that luxury right now, although having 6 starters and 20 total pitchers helps !

Mitchell, you probably are right. Resting people is important, but he was some injury concerns that are more than just resting. So on second thought, I think Francona is handling his offense as well as can be expected.

His handling of the staff however is reason for concern. As for bragging rights, I'd like them for the first time in 12 years!

Andy

You really only care about the case of beer that's on the line. As for Gagne, he tried to help you out the other night

Peter, don't think the case of beer is weighing heavily in my frustration. For the first time in 12 years, I have a chance to be owed a case (or at least have my debt to you reduced). How many cases are we behind anyway? I think the last one I paid out was right before your last move in Boston, right (i.e. when you lived on Columbus Ave). When was that? Once you moved down the road, we didn't do it again...I think.

Regardless, I owe you some serious beer volume...

Gagne is refusing responsibility. He says Davern Hansack is the culprit as they were both warming up when the incident went down. Either way, it is a Belichickian tactic...one I support.

I'll trade you Farnsworth for Gagne, with Pavano thrown in on the side.

At least Gagne seems to care.

Corey, I'll give you that, there is no quit in Gagne and he does care. I'm convinced he is a good pitcher, but for whatever reason, he has lost his way. With so few games left, I'm not sure they have the time to determine if he is redeamable.

As for your trade offer, I'll pass.
