Goodbye Scooter
Phil Rizzuto died today at 89. While I was much too young to ever have seen him play, Scooter was the voice of the Yankees when I was growing up. Whether it was talking about cannolis, or complaining about traffic on the GW, Rizzuto always was entertaining. From Seinfeld to Meat Loaf, his famous "Holy Cow" became know to millions outside of New York. I only hope they got a chance to hear the real thing, it was a treat.

Fairwell to The Scooter. Not that anyone cares what I think, but he is as much a Yankee as any player I can think of what with him playing his entire career as a Yankee and his broadcast work.
I'll remember him most for saying "It's a hit, for The Money Store!"

To me, Scooter's voice coming out of that little speaker on what we called a "transistor radio" was the essence of the Bronx Bombers.
That guy was the most unassuming, unpretentious character I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Holy Cow !!!
