Hip, Hip, Jorge!
7 Jan 2012
According to Sweeny Murti Jorge Posada will announce his retirement within the next two weeks. Assuming this is true, Posada will never play for another organization other than the Yankees.
I hope the Yankees invite Posada to come to spring training to work with some of the younger players and I hope Joe Girardi smartens up and ends his silly feud with Jorge. Obviously, his number also needs to be removed from circulation for now as well.
Congrats to Jorge on a wonderful career. He will be missed.

Peter, if I recall correctly, Jorge was at least partially to blame in that feud. He was known to call his own game once he squatted, regardless of the manager’s wishes. In other words, seems like it takes two to create and then perpetuate a feud, no?
Regardless, I agree: he was a great, loyal and valuable Yankee. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

You are right about it taking two to tango, but I still think Girardi moving him to 9th in the lineup against Boston was over the line.

Yep, Peter – THAT was over the line.
“And now for something completely different” : Great game – Go Big Blue !!!

I am trying to avoid the trap of seeing the similarities between this team and 2007, but there are a lot of them! Very good sign that they found their running game yesterday, but they will need Ross healthy this weekend. I know that is like saying the Yankees need AJ, but Prince is more of a frog in coverage.

Peter?
It’s really funny – and perfect – that you brought up a similarity between AJ and the Jints – they are equally inconsistent in the way they play the game on any given day. I’m not talking about “the Fumble” or even “The Crumble” – I’m talking about from one quarter or one game to the next. Sort of like AJ “being AJ” from one inning (or even batter) to the next.
I think Eli is having his best year, the running game seems to be alive – Jacobs has finally learned to find an open lane or bounce outside instead of plowing straight ahead all the time. Bradshaw is showing good hands on occasion.
For me, the most important improvement is that the D seems to be showing an ability to play shutdown ball, a bit like some of the better teams in the past. Loved the two stops on 4th down. JPP reminds me, a little bit of LT in the way he gets after the QB or an RB trying to come through the line.
And yep, yep – Prince is going to have to find some quick feet – and do it soon if Ross stays out.
Fun !

The scary thing about JPP is that he is still learning how to play football. His athleticism is amazing, ever see his backflips video? (google it if you haven’t)
With him and the rest of the pass rush clicking, they will be dangerous this weekend, but this is a tough, tough assignment. I think they caught the Packers sleeping a bit in December, that won’t happen Sunday.

Peter – I had never seen those videos before! Let’s see: he’s 6′ 5″ and he is that agile? And he’s still only 23, so he’s going to keep growing and filling out – Amazing !
And yep, the Packers will surely be wide awake for this one. I remember the 2007 game well – I was sitting in the sports bar at the Venetian in Vegas with a client and a great friend. My guess is that Jints fans were outnumbered by a factor of 3 or 4 to 1. But what we lacked in numbers, we made up for with exuberance !
Going to be a fun game to watch.

Yes it will be quite a ballgame. And the powers that be at MSG have made the Giants the only show in town because they yanked Rangers and Knicks games off of Time Warner.
So, G0 Blue!
