Tonight was the first time since 1991 that the Yankees have lost back-to-back complete games at the Stadium. It’s pretty amazing that a team with two pitchers like Lee and Hernandez is 11 games under .500, isn’t it? When the Yankees get dominated like that, there is little point in dissecting it, so I will spare you my questions. Instead, let’s look at a decision the Yankees are reportedly thinking about- whether or not to promote Dustin Moseley from AAA.
Moseley can opt out of his deal tomorrow, but I hope that doesn’t force the Yankees’ hand. You would have to assume that Moseley would be added to the roster at the expense of Gaudin and I don’t see the reason to do that. Gaudin is younger, has a better track record than Moseley in the bigs and has pitched better recently. Over his last six innings, Gaudin has surrendered two hits and a walk while striking out five. With news that Mitre and Aceves are not coming back before the All-Star Break, I would give Gaudin a chance to pitch a few more times before cutting him loose.
As for Moseley, a guy with a 4.97 ERA in 543 innings at AAA doesn’t seem worth a roster shake up to me. Let’s see if the Yankees agree.

Peter – maybe it’s not Gaudin, it’s Park they’re looking at. Probably not, but, hey, I can hope.
The Mariners are 7-3 over their last 10 games so I think they are starting to live up to the potential some folks had for them on opening day. I don’t think the Mariners are a last place team when October arrives.
It’s July 1st and the Yankees seem to be struggling a bit lately. This time last year, we were in 2nd place, having scored 14 fewer runs and given up 44 more runs in a year over year comparison. We did have a 7 game winning streak going so the team was starting to come together. I still get the sense this team needs a few things be ready for a good second half push to the post-season.

Mitchell- You and I have been down on the Park signing from day 1, so I will dream with you. I still don’t know how Moseley offers an upgrade over either of them to be honest.
Mark Feinsand is reporting the move will be made after the game, so we might get a clue as to who is being released by who pitches in the game. Figure the Yankees will use the guy they are dropping if they need a righty reliever.
I think the big thing for this team is for Teixeira to be Teixeira again. If he gets going, the lineup really becomes transformed.

Maybe they will send down Curtis or Huffman or maybe it’s Logan who heads down when/if Moseley arrives.
And you’re right about Tex – we have to have him. Same thing with A-Rod and Jeter, both of whom seem a little flat as well.

Sorry about the double posts, Peter.
This is a very, very cool video that shows Mo’s cutter, done by some tech guys at NYU, as relayed to me by theyankeeu.com. If you have any interest in how pitches work, or in just how Mo makes so many hitters look so inept, watch this and enjoy.

The thing that just amazes me is that he throws cutters about 85% or more of the time. You have to assume hitters go up there guessing cutter and still they don’t hit it. It just shows you how awesome he is.
We’ve had this conversation before, but he has to be the last guy introduced on Old Timer’s Day in 10 years. Nothing against Jeter, but this is the guy.

Peter – I know, it astounds me too: “Here it is, hit it if you can” – and they just break bats or hit ground balls. Unless Mo makes a mistake, it’s an out …
And yep, Mo does have to be the last guy introduced, same way he was the last introduction at the WS Champs ceremonies recently held.
