Goodbye Moose
19 Nov 2008
According to Foxsports.com, Mike Mussina is going to retire.
Not really a shock and I think this helps the Yankees out. Moose would have wanted to come back for multiple years and at age 40, that is not a good risk to take. Plus, despite their performances in 2008, I would still rather have Pettitte in ’09 than Moose.
I will blog more on this later, but for now I am off to a hockey game.

Sorry to see him go. He was a true professional and I would bet (one of the few) non-roids guys in the league during his career. A career which was spent, entirely, in the AL East. Hats off to you Moose, you went out on top and will always be one of the greats in my book!

Smart guy.
Knew what he had to do be a great 39 year old pitcher – and did it.
Smart enough to know when to call it quits and go out on top instead of siding down to failure against age and against guys 15 years his junior.
Probably smart enough to be a great pitching coach, but then again probably smart enough to know that this might be too frustrating for him.
Yup, Steve is right – he’s one of the great ones.
